Advanced Soil Test

Happy plants need healthy soil. You can buy the most beautiful flowers, yummy plants, or fancy seeds, but if your soil isn’t healthy then you’ll be asking the same sad question over and over again, “Why is my plant dying?”

Tap Score's Advanced Soil Test gives you access to state-of-the-art laboratory soil testing from the comfort of your home. This Advanced version of our test adds an analysis of your soil's texture and C/N ratio–two key indicators that provide insight into soil drainage, nitrogen availability, and overall health. You’ll receive (1) Certified lab testing (2) Quantified test results and (3) University-driven soil health reporting and advice.

What does this test for

testing by a certified lab

Each Tap Score Essential Soil Test package includes sampling materials for one (1) soil sample including Macro- and Micronutrients, as well as metals and other vital soil health characteristics – such as lime, pH, and organic matter.

These characterizations allow us (and you) to figure out what is missing, what is wrong, and ultimately how to improve your soil quality and your plants’ health. We will guide you in your decision-making process about restoring your soil's health based on your lab results.

pH

Indicates your soil’s acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0 to 14.

Electrical conductivity (soluble salts)

Different plants vary widely in their tolerance to soluble salts. Therefore, the values reported for your plants are interpreted in relative terms.

Soil Organic Matter (SOM)

The amount of plant and animal residue present in your soil is known as the Soil Organic Matter (SOM). This is reported as percent of total soil.

Nitrate as Nitrogen (NO3-N)

Nitrate is critical to plant growth and production. The nitrate measured is soluble and readily available for your plants to uptake as fertilizer.

Plant Macronutrients

Phosphorus, Potassium, Nitrogen

Plant Micronutrients

Zinc, Iron, Copper, Manganese, Boron, Molybdenum

Non-essential Elements

Lead, Cadmium, Chromium

Lime (CaCO3)

Lime is measured in the laboratory as calcium carbonate (CaCO3). Lime effects pH, is often a critical source of calcium and magnesium, improves water flow in soil, and supports the uptake of critical plant nutrients.

Exclusive to the Advanced Test:

Soil Texture

Soil texture is important for categorizing the type of soil that you have as well as understanding the flow of water, air and other nutrients to your plants’ roots.

C/N Ratio

A ratio of the mass of carbon (C) to the mass of nitrogen (N), your soil’s C/N ratio has a direct impact on residue decomposition and nitrogen cycling.

Laboratory certifications

Tap Score’s soil testing laboratories are certified for accuracy and excellence, including participation in the following national programs:
